Course Description

This seminar covers the essential aspects of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022 and equips students with the knowledge and skills to design more efficient ventilation systems. The seminar starts by focusing on the basic requirements of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022, covering its scope, application, and multiple compliance paths, including the ventilation rate procedure, indoor air quality procedure, and natural ventilation procedure. Topics include crucial aspects such as minimum requirements for cleaning outdoor air, designing HVAC systems, determining ventilation rate quantities, and effective commissioning, as well as proper operations and maintenance practices. The seminar explores constant volume and variable air volume (VAV) recirculating systems for both single zone and multiple zone spaces. Fundamental insights into designing Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) ventilation and comparing energy usage among various ventilation system types, guiding you in making informed and environmentally responsible choices are covered.  This seminar is designed for attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022 and the principles of ventilation design to create ventilation systems that meet the highest standards of efficiency and compliance with ASHRAE standards.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the three major types of contaminants in the air and give an example of a source for each.
  • List the five major requirement sections of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022
  • Understand that different approaches to HVAC design using the Ventilation Rate Procedure result in different quantities of outside air at the outside air intake.
  • Contrast the Ventilation Rate Procedure, the Indoor Air Quality Procedure, and the Natural Ventilation Procedure.
  • Explain the adjustment factors for any system designed with the VRP that converts the breathing zone ventilation rates to outdoor air intake ventilation rate; Know two techniques for improving system ventilation efficiency.
